Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke Star in Gay-Themed Short Film

Pedro Pascal, best known for his roles in Game of Thrones, The Mandolorian, and most recently The Last of Us, is excited to star in an upcoming gay-themed short film. The soon-to-premier short film is directed by Pedro Almodóvar and will feature the fabulous Ethan Hawke co-starring alongside Pascal.

The film, Strange Way of Life, is an upcoming gay western film that depicts two men, Silva (Pascal) and Sheriff Jake (Hawke) reuniting after not seeing each other for 25 years. The film is 30 minutes long and set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Spanish actors Manu Rios and Jason Fernández also play supporting roles in the upcoming film.

Pascal has expressed his excitement about the film and his initial interest because of director Almodóvar who “absolutely opened up an entire world of storytelling, color, culture, rebellion, and sexuality that was just absolutely intoxicating, dangerous, hilarious, heartbreaking, and encompassing the whole spectrum, but with such a signature style,” Pascal says.

Pascal has also shared his enthusiasm working with Hawke. “To get to work with Ethan, whose movies I’ve seen since I was a little kid, who I’ve seen onstage off-Broadway, on Broadway, whose books I’ve read, whose plays I’ve seen him direct, and big movie, small movies, horror movies,” he says, “it was really an incredible opportunity to go, learn, and to enjoy the experience of being on the level of people like that. Taking it all in was incredible.”

The acclaimed director, who identifies as gay, has previously talked about the film on the Dua Lipa: At Your Service podcast saying, “This is a queer Western in the sense that there are two men, and they love each other, and they behave in that situation in an opposite way.” In another interview, he describes Strange Way of Life as “my answer to Brokeback Mountain.

Pascal has been shining in the spotlight recently with his featured role in HBO’s The Last of Us, and plans to costar with David Harbour in an HBO limited series, My Dentist’s Murder Trial. It is exciting to see queer representation in media, and we can’t wait to watch Pascal dazzle viewers when it comes out this May.
