Peaches Christ is Back With a New Single

She’s on a mission to darken your disco. The legendary drag icon herself Peaches Christ is back and, to absolutely nobody’s surprise, shockingly fabulous as ever. Her new single, fittingly released on Friday the 13, is called “Child of Christ.”
The track is the product of a collaboration with actor Thomas Dekker, whom Christ had previously worked in 2010 when she directed the film All About Evil. Dekker, whose vocals and appearance in its accompanying music video certainly pack a punch, directed the video. The flashing visuals evoke BDSM with shirtless men in collars and leashes before Christ appears in big pink hair to deliver the track’s punchy lyrics. “Thriller, killer, best of the best,” she announces, “mother to the other and harder than the rest.” Stuttering hi-hats and a catchy synth give the track a sinister, 80s industrial sort of feel, almost reminiscent of a much gayer Skinny Puppy.
Along with the original track, a few remixes were added to the single’s release. Probe 7’s version is all at once dreamy and danceable with its ethereal sound. The Club Kid mix introduces a bit of a house-like sound and is definitely ready for a blurry-eyed night at the club, while the Maternal Emission expands on the industrial sound of the original and features sampling sourced from horror movies. Each version has something new to give, but the same thread runs through each song: it’s an absolute banger.
The release comes after Christ’s recent participation in Drag Me to Dinner, a reality show in which drag queens compete to throw the best dinner party and win the title of Glorious Golden Grater. With a repertoire of songs in her arsenal such as “Still a Whore,” “Poison Peach,” and “Idol Worship,” the new track fits right in to the drag queen’s discography. Christ’s releases, all available on Bandcamp, make bold statements every time and “Child of Christ” only further cements the iconic drag queen’s legacy as a confident and successful entertainer.
