Our allies in the CO House just crushed two awful House Bills. Let’s thank them, shall we?

We got fantastic news via a fantastic email this morning, so we thought it’d be best to share it with you in its entirety. It goes like this:

We won today.
Just now, the Colorado House State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee voted down House Bills 1161 and 1171. These bills would have allowed individuals and businesses to claim their religious beliefs allow them to pick and choose which laws to follow — rolling back key protections for LGBT Coloradans and many other communities.
If these bills had passed, they would have had dangerous consequences for our community. For example, an EMT could deny life-saving care to an LGBT person based on his/her religious beliefs, and a high school guidance counselor could even refuse to help a gay teenager by saying it goes against his/her religious beliefs.
Today’s outcome is a direct result of the emails, phone calls, and in-person conversations you put in motion to make sure these dangerous bills did not pass. We could not have done it without you.
Onward,
Dave Montez, Executive Director / One Colorado
