OFM Style: Take Care of Down There
Journalist, Intern, Makeup lover, and Local Weeb
OK, we spend plenty of time obsessing over how we look, how our skin feels, and, most importantly, how to take care of it and ourselves. Specifically, we prioritize our facial skin and anything exposed to the elements or seen by the public. However, have you ever thought about the care you take of your genitalia? Are taking care of the most sensitive area on our whole body?
Gender aside, we all have one thing in common, and that’s our glans or, more cautiously, our naughty bits. How well are we taking care of them? Well I’m here to shine a light on some great ways to keep your bits fresh and ready for anything–and I mean anything.
First and foremost, cleaning the area to keep it in tip-top shape is a given. I don’t just mean with a quick rinse of water or a splash of your normal body wash; your “down there” needs some special soap. For people with a penis and testicles, a ph-balancing wash will help clear up any smell and irritation you may have. One great cleanser from LoveWellness is created without parabens, sulfates or phthalate, is cruelty-free, and will leave you clean and confident with the ingredients that you are using. A bar soap formulated for gentle skin cleansing is perfect, especially for these hot and sticky days ahead. Try the gentle body bat from Beekman 1802; the goat milk and natural cholesterol from the goats’ milk will keep the area nice and soft, offering a maximum clean and still gentle enough for the twins and their leader.
Washing is fine and dandy, but what about overall maintenance? If you are like many Americans today, you may have a big, beautiful body! Being big and beautiful means there is just so much more to love and to show off. However, you might have a problem with your thighs or parts of your body rubbing together and chaffing. Hell, even if you’re skinny, when you run, sometimes your nipples tend to chafe from the friction of your top. I’m here to tell you to stop using your deodorant as an anti-chafing layer; instead, use your favorite lip balm pot to create an occlusive layer on the affected area. This will not only protect you all day but provide moisture for a better, smoother you.
Lastly, how are your kegels coming along? Yes, I am speaking to everyone here. Kegels, also known as pelvic floor exercises are not only remarkable for vulvas but penises and testicles as well. If you are having a hard time figuring out how to do a kegel without a vulva, don’t worry; I will tell you. Think of the muscle you use to pee; it’s just flexing that muscle a few times a day for life, and your erectile function will improve! It may seem silly now, but your future self will be grateful for the silly little exercise.
Use these tips to make your summer more fun and more comfortable; you deserve to be healthy and sexy! And with our help, you’ll be able to keep your “under there” away from despair.
