Peace of mind comes with acceptance

Peace of mind comes with acceptance

As I walk my Spiritual path, every day seems to bring some new awareness that seeks my attention.

I have been stimulated by many different things to take a closer look at my resistance. That feeling of rejecting or judging another or an alternate opinion or anything, really, that doesn’t resonate with me. Clearly, I am not here to embrace that which doesn’t feel right with my soul; my inner being.

But neither am I here to resist that which seems to work for you or someone else, simply because it doesn’t work for me.

I have been vaguely familiar with the term non-resistance from a passing knowledge of Buddhism, but I can make no claims to its workings in my life. I know that what I resist persists, so non-resistance would seem to make a lot of sense if my desire is to live in harmony with the Universe. Resistance serves to exaggerate that which I am resisting and as that exaggeration becomes more prominent in my mind, I tend to develop resentments.

Of course, once I start resenting anyone or anything I become attached to it and the resentment. Again, from Buddhist thought, I get that attachment and suffering go hand-in-hand.

In the end, I have perpetuated that which I had intended to diminish and eliminate.

So, I am called to this idea of non-resistance. In my thinking the key piece is acceptance. Setting aside the needs of my ego, I simply accept the diversity of people, ideas and opinions as the Universe expressing Itself in all Its possible combinations. In an infinite ocean of possibilities there will be many more possibilities that do not resonate with me than those that do.

We are each individuations of the one source energy, so, regardless our differences, we are all made of the same stuff. If I can see that truth in all people and things, then I have no reason to resist, I can simply accept.

In acceptance there is peace of mind. When I can do away with my resistance, I can truly feel that I am in harmony with you, with all people and things and with the Universe.
