New Zealand band Broods coming to Denver
Berlin Sylvestre is Out Front's Editor.
Bro/sis duo Broods just released an album that’s ridiculously chill and as equally addictive. Entitled “Evergreen,” it’s got a little something for whatever mood you’re in. The band is coming to Angelo’s CDs on the 24th and they’re amped to sign and perform for the Denver crowd. Broods’ Caleb Nott gave Out Front five minutes of chat-time. Check it out:
Where are you right now?
I am currently sitting in a cardboard hut being served a pretend dinner by my friend’s daughter at his place in L.A.
So you’re in the states. First tour here?
This was our 3rd tour here this year. I think we’ve lived here in America more than New Zealand this year. It’s very different but we’re slowly getting used to the American way of life.
You just played in my hometown of Atlanta, GA. How was the love?
The show in Atlanta was probably the most stand out show for us on this tour! The venue was incredible and the best crowd we had of all the shows.
You’re doing an acoustic set here in Denver. Can you give us a teaser of what to expect? [My sister and bandmate] Georgia [Nott] and I spent our teenage years playing acoustic covers in cafes etc to make money. We grew up having a strong folk background from our parents, so it’s a very natural environment for us. The songs will sound a bit different that’s for sure, haha
Were you always close growing up or did music open your eyes to how cool the other was suddenly? Are you type of siblings to have some serious “knock-down, drag outs” or are you the chill and protective of one another type?
Definitely the chill and protective type. We’ve always been best mates ever since we were little kids. It’s so much easier doing this with someone you know so well; it means you can be very blunt with each other and no one gets offended, ha.
What’s your writing process like?
It changes every time we write. I guess we like to change it up so we always come up with something different.
New Zealand is cranking out hits lately. Lorde, Kimbra, you. Are there American producers wandering your streets, hunting down your talent? How were you discovered?
I don’t know about American producers walking the streets, but eyes are on New Zealand. I think it’s due to the new ways of discovering music like Soundcloud, because it’s given the world access to what’s happening back home I guess.
Who are you listening to lately?
I’ve been going back to albums such as Demon Days by the Gorillaz at the moment.
What song on the album is your favorite to perform?
For me it is definitely L.A.F because it just has a really cool energy when performing it!
Anything you’d like me to get the word out on?
I guess the album just dropped in America so probably that!
Peep the new album on Soundcloud here.
