New Queer Books Announced to be Published by Pride

Octopus Publishing Group has announced three new queer books that will be published this spring.

Octopus Publishing Group is a nonfiction publishing company based in London, UK that actively seeks to improve diversity in their workers and in the authors they publish. In preparation for Pride this June, they have several new queer books coming out this spring.

The first of these books that will come out is PRIDE POWER: The Young Person’s Guide to LGBTQ+ by Harriet Dyer. PRIDE POWER will be released on April 2nd, and functions as a guide for young people of the age 11 and older, to introduce them to the power of Pride and the LGBTQ+ community. It also aims to teach young people about what Pride means to them specifically, whether it is about protesting for equal rights for everyone, a celebration of our differences and identities, or a way of finding a supportive community.

Another book releasing this spring from Octopus Publishing Group is Photography – A Queer History by Flora Dunster and Theo Gordon that will be released on May 7th. Its described as the essential guide to queer photography as Dunster and Gordon examine how photography has been used to capture, create, and expand the category of “queer.” The book highlights thematic concerns central to queer photography and creates connections demonstrating the multitude of ways the medium has been used to create and evolve queer identities and communities.

Lastly, Queer Villains of Myth and Legend by Dan Jones will also be released on May 7th and is a celebration of the villainous queer mystical beings that exist in our folklores. It is also a sequel to Queer Heroes of Myth and Legend, which was released last May. In this sequel, Jones explores the queerness of villains from the myths of the Minotaur and Circe to pop culture villains such as Miss Trunchbull and the Babadook.

Despite the constant fight against the banning of queer books, we are still writing and exploring queer history through these new books thanks to Octopus Publishing Group’s dedication to diversity.
