New book ‘Trans Kin’ by Colorado author enlightens family, friends of trans people

A new book of interest to the LGBT community and friends and family of transgender persons is now available: Trans-Kin: A Guide for Family and Friends of Transgender People. Colorado natives and editors Cameron Whitley, who is from Colorado, and Eleanor Hubbard have compiled a record of accounts from friends, family members and allies of transgender people.   

Whitley said that he first came up with the idea for the book after he came out to his family, and there were no books or resources to help them deal with their emotions while still trying to support him.

“The members of my family were not interested in attending a group or meeting people online for support,” Whitley said. “They wanted something they could read, a book they could pick up, read, think about and put down.”

The accounts come from members of the LGBT community, such as the PFLAG Regional Director Jean Hodges, and Kim Pearson, executive director of Trans Youth Family Allies.
