Nancy Mace Abruptly Cancels Campaign Stop After Embarrassing Turnout

Congresswoman Nancy Mace abruptly cancelled a Myrtle Beach campaign stop on Thursday after only eight people showed up in attendance. The vehement republican, having referred to herself as “Donald Trump in high heels,” and a “proud transphobe,” has led her campaign with impassioned attacks at the LGBTQ+ community, creating a bathroom bill this past November targeting transgender individuals in Capitol Hill.
According to Advocate, Mace boasted that more than 100 people would be present at Forward Church for her Moms for Liberty event. But by the time she was scheduled to speak, only eight people (apart from security and reporters) had come to listen. The self-proclaimed “frontrunner” of the South Carolina Governor candidates then proceeded to scramble off stage and retreat, tail between her legs to answer media questions outside the church, and meet the few supporters who decided to come.
Despite the embarrassing incident on Thursday, Mace persists that she is still the lead contender. Mace told My Horry News, “Trump voters are two-thirds of the state, and we’re winning Trump voters by double digits.” Mace continues pandering to Trump supporters, especially their anti-trans agenda. She’s been recorded regurgitating rhetoric about pronouns and “biological gender,” using hateful speech and slurs when addressing transgender people.
While Mace does remain ahead of her competitors, more than one third of republican voters in South Carolina are still undecided. Combined with the cringeworthy lack of support at this campaign event, it remains a question as to how strong her support actually is, especially as we move closer to gubernatorial elections. How long will Mace be able to ride on her Trump imitation before Republicans begin to wonder if she has any beliefs of her own?
With one cancelled speech and a couple of controversial moments so far in her campaign, Mace’s run is surely going to continue to be interesting.
