From queer romance to unconventional erotic storytelling, the 2026 HUMP! Film Festival invites audiences to celebrate sexuality without shame. Since 2005, the HUMP!, created by Dan Savage, has challenged traditional ideas surrounding pornography, sexuality, and erotic entertainment. What began as a community-driven celebration of sex positivity has evolved into a platform uplifting LGBTQ+ identities, sex workers, adult content creators, and artists whose stories are often overlooked by mainstream media.
This Denver 2026 edition embraces creativity with an unconventional lineup featuring haunted VHS tapes, Greek mythology, stop-motion LEGO animation, and queer romance. Rather than focusing solely on sexual content, the festival highlights imagination, vulnerability, and authentic human experiences. Unlike mainstream adult entertainment, HUMP! encourages filmmakers to embrace their individuality without conforming to conventional beauty standards or expectations about sexuality. Accessibility remains central to the festival’s mission, with free submissions, filmmaker compensation, and opportunities for both experienced and first-time creators.
“Some of the most interesting films come from people who simply have an idea they really want to make, a smartphone or camera, and some time to film,” Allie Huska explains. Filmmakers also have the freedom to remain anonymous or publicly celebrate their work, creating opportunities for individuals with different comfort levels and personal circumstances.
Beyond the films themselves, HUMP! emphasizes the importance of bringing people together. Through humor, storytelling, and shared experiences, the festival creates an environment where individuals can explore unfamiliar perspectives without judgment. “HUMP! is really for everyone. You just have to have a desire to see sex-positive art and to be in community with other people doing the same,” the representative shares.
With screenings featuring approximately 90 minutes of short films, each lasting no longer than five minutes, audiences can expect an experience filled with laughter, curiosity, and unexpected moments. Other Hump Festival screenings offer drag performances, filmmaker appearances, after-parties, and community partnerships, transforming screenings into opportunities for meaningful connections.
At a time when censorship and stigma continue to threaten sexual expression, HUMP! offers more than entertainment. It reminds audiences that queer art, bodily autonomy, and authentic storytelling deserve visibility and celebration. As the festival representative emphasized, “You get to see something vulnerable, you get to be vulnerable just by attending something new, and you get to witness the vulnerability and humanness of those around you.”
The 2026 HUMP! Film Festival Fall Season in Denver takes place on Saturday, October 24 at The Oriental Theater.
