Miz Cracker to Bring ‘She’s a Woman’ Tour to Denver

Miz Cracker

Aaaaaand … Crack-tion!

After several postponements thanks to the global calamity known as COVID-19, RuPaul’s Drag Race superstar and comedienne Miz Cracker has finally launched her She’s a Woman tour, and she will be coming to HQ Denver on Friday, February 11.

In this brand-new show, Cracker presents a full hour of standup comedy and music, discussing everything from dating and dieting to quarantining and aging. With her signature brand of cheerful pessimism, she tells jokes and stories about her bizarre childhood, her vices, her worst mistakes, and how she somehow managed to survive it all. Embracing a message of self-acceptance, She’s a Woman is a show for anyone who needs to laugh out loud—sometimes at ourselves.

OFM caught up with Cracker to talk more about the show.

How excited are you to finally kick off your She’s a Woman tour? It feels like you have been stuck in limbo forever!
Oh my God, I’m about to say something positive, which is so hard for me (laughs). Honestly, I don’t think it could have been the show that it is without all the delays that we’ve had. It has turned into something very beautiful and something that I really love, and now I can’t wait to share it.

You revamped and updated the set. What can audiences expect?
They can expect stories about how I came to be who I am and accept who I am without remorse. Hopefully, that will give people something that they can use as a lens to look at themselves.

This isn’t your first time performing in the Mile High City, is it?
No, not at all. I have been through many times; I love hanging out there, and I have some great friends there. I am very excited to come back.

What do you love the most about your Denver fans?
There’s a different temperature for every audience, and the Denver audience is always so wonderful and receptive. Even though I am gasping for air, the audience is helping me live through screaming, and I love that!

What have you missed the most about touring and performing in front of live audiences?
Thank you for asking that question. I love the energy that audiences give me when it’s in-person. You can’t get that over Zoom, and I always knew that, but the pandemic really showed it to me. I love having that human battery that is the audience. They charge me, and it’s amazing.

You have said that the phrase ‘she’s a woman’ is kind of like your rally cry. What’s the origin story and significance of the saying?
I used to say ‘she’s a woman’ just to myself, and it would appear in my Instagram stories; then I just said it because I was like, oh, she looks like a woman. She’s a woman. Then one of my friends, Jamie Sanford, she said, ‘You say it so much that every time I look in the mirror now, I go, she’s a woman.’ I was like, is this a thing? Then I just sort of fell in love with it through that, and it became what it is, which is something I say literally dozens of times a day in and out of drag.

There is a lot of storytelling in this show, and you touch on topics like sex and dating, quarantining, getting older, and your childhood. Is there a story that you are most excited to tell?
Yes! There’s a story that I’m very excited to tell about my mother, and audiences should be excited because it’s ridiculous. I’m not allowed to tell it anywhere but on the live stage. There’s a lot of material that I’m not allowed to use anywhere else but on the live stage because it’s just too much, so I’m excited to be able to be in person and share those things that I can’t share anywhere else.

You also embrace a message of self-acceptance. In the past, you have experienced a lot of self-doubt and self-confidence issues. Is that nervousness gone?
No, I’m always nervous. I’m Jewish (laughs). As a people, we are nervous because of past experiences, but no, I feel like I’ve just learned to ride with my nerves a little bit more instead of fighting them. Having the fight out of the way really helps me.

What advice can you give to others who are constantly standing in their own way?
For people that are standing in their own way, I would say, don’t punish yourself for it. Don’t yell at yourself for your bad habits. You’re only going to make them worse. Be gentle with yourself. Be like, “Yeah, I stand in my own way sometimes. That’s OK. We all do it.” If you say, “God damnit, I’m ruining my life by standing in my way,” you’re just making the situation even worse. You’re going to stand in your own way even harder.

Do you believe it’s important to take a moment and just laugh at ourselves?
Definitely. I think the best person to make fun of is yourself, which is why I chose myself as the person to make fun of. This show is basically 75 minutes of me making fun of myself because no one could be mad at that. If everyone took their energy and stopped making fun of other people or bringing other people down, and they turned that laser beam onto themselves, the world would be a better place.

How would you say Miz Cracker is constantly evolving?
Miz Cracker is constantly evolving in that she is always looking for new challenges, and I’ll give an example. I did the drag circuit in New York for a long time, and I love performing lip sync numbers and making lip sync mixes. That was my favorite thing to do. Then when I did All Stars 5, I kind of got a taste for standup. Pure standup by itself. After that, I was like, I’m going to go do straight comedy clubs.

So, I got in drag and started trying my comedy at straight clubs all over the city for, like, $20 a night. It was something that I had never done before. It was a different audience, a different mindset, and it was thrilling to do something that I’ve never tried before. I think that’s where my evolution comes from. It’s daring to try new things and go to places where I might not be comfortable.

When we last spoke, you said you would return for a third season of Drag Race if asked. Is that still the case?
Oh, absolutely not. Even when I get opportunities where people are developing a TV show, I’m hesitant to even say that I would be interested. A lot of queens live for the television, but I live for the in-person stuff. I could care less about TV. However, if you are someone that’s reading this, and you have a lucrative television opportunity, I will not deny it! I will not turn you down!

Do you have any music projects in the works?
Yes, I have a very important music project in the works. It’s called, Cracker should not do anymore music (laughs). I have these ideas for songs at midnight, and I write them down, then I’m like, I swear to God, we should record this. A couple of weeks pass, and I’m like, this is actually not a great idea.

Are you still doing your She’s a Woman podcast?
We were on hiatus for a little bit, but we returned January 24. It’s very exciting because I have learned so much from that podcast and from working with Katelyn, my producer and co-host. People should look out for some incredible guests that are influencers, educators, athletes, all that.

Before we wrap up, do you have any other upcoming projects or anything else you would like to mention or plug?
Right now, the tour is the thing where you’ll catch the Cracker. As for my future projects and dreams, I just want to say I’ll be developing my standup comedy life and hopefully doing as many tours with that as I can with people that I admire. We’ll see where it goes!
