Meow Wolf’s Sustainable Trashion Show

Trashion Show

Calling all fashion enthusiasts! Meow Wolf, a Santa Fe-based arts and entertainment company, are excited to announce their first-ever trash fashion (trashion) show taking place on Tuesday, September, 19 at 7 p.m. at The Convergence Station. The event is 18-plus and will consist of recycled and upcycled, avante-garde looks from 20 local designers here in Denver combining both innovative and sustainable designs. This runway is guaranteed to make your jaw drop as the trashier the designs the better!

Many of the costumes were designed by Wardrobe Coordinator and Creature Designer Kate Major and were created from reused, upcycled, and unwanted materials. Major states, “There is so much inspiration in trash, and it feels really good to know that you gave a new glamorous life to materials that would have ended up in a landfill.”

Unfortunately, the impact of the textile industry on the environment isn’t so sustainable. The U.S. Geological Survey found that 71% of microplastics found in samples of river water came from fibers. Scientists estimate that, globally, 35% of the microplastics found in oceans can be traced to textiles, making them the largest source of microplastic pollution in the world’s oceans. Seeing that the fashion industry is essential to self-expression and American culture, Meow Wolf’s inventive runway approach is a step towards a more viable fashion future.

The integration of trash is no stranger at The Convergence Station. C Street, one of the many worlds within the exhibition, consists of an alien cityscape with a cyberpunk aesthetic that used to be the sanitation district on its home planet of Immensity. The trash-chic aesthetic can be seen by guests throughout the world as they are led to the Gremlin Symphony, a room-sized musical instrument crafted from local trash that magically plays on its own. The acclaimed immersive art experience will act as an iconic backdrop for the unconventional runway where sustainability is vital and creativity is unleashed.

General admission tickets are $40 (plus fees), and VIP tickets including a seat in the first 3 rows, a Meow Wolf swag bag, and 1 drink ticket, are $65 (plus fees). Click here to buy your tickets today! Sales end on September 19 at 12:00 a.m. MDT.

You don’t want to miss this awe-inspiring and impressive display of local talent!
