In Memory – Robert L. “Bob” Engel
ROBERT L. “BOB” ENGEL
March 31, 1940 – Jan. 6, 2015
A third generation Coloradoan, Bob was a man of many talents. He went to college on a basketball scholarship, became the editor of the school’s newspaper, was president of the Drama Society and vice president of the Student Council — all before graduating with a degree in speech and drama. After a number of years of teaching in Limon and Aurora, his entrepreneurial spirit hit the ground running. He sold the cigarette- and candy-machine business he started and opened B.J.’s Carousel, which became a very important fund raising tool for the community, raising more than $1.4 million for the Colorado AIDS Program alone. BJ’s became the premier fund raising venue providing much-needed revenue to more than 25 non-profits and providing space to many celebrations of life functions. He operated the bar and lounge for 33.5 years. We at Out Front raise our glasses to the life of a homegrown humanitarian and mourn the loss of a dear, dear friend to the community.
