Melania Trump is Pro Choice!

Former First Lady Melania Trump wrote a book, and in it she made her position on women’s rights to abortion very clear: She is pro-choice, despite her husband’s right wing, pro-birth stance.

To quote her from her book, Melania, “It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government.

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes.

“Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”

She also writes that she and her husband disagree on a number of policies, including immigration, but that she prefers to address these issues privately rather than publicly. 

Melania Trump goes on to say, “I have always believed it is critical for people to take care of themselves first. It’s a very straightforward concept; in fact, we are all born with a set of fundamental rights, including the right to enjoy our lives. We are all entitled to maintain a gratifying and dignified existence. This common-sense approach applies to a woman’s natural right to make decisions about her own body and health.”

Ironically, her husband made a statement praising his wife’s “commitment to excellence … insightful perspective … (and) entrepreneurial achievements.” As if he perhaps hasn’t read her book at all. 

On her abortion stance, her husband says her beliefs stem from, “a core set of principles” based on the foundational principles of “individual liberty” and “personal freedom,” and there is “no room for negotiation” with her.

It’s an interesting thing to see how even those who we think are pro-birth might actually be faking their political positions for publicity or power. It may be that many republicans are actually pro-choice behind closed doors. Stories have come out about many republican politicians convincing their girlfriends or mistresses to get abortions and even paying for them, like Scott Lloyd, Tim Murphy, Scott DesJarlais, and Herschel Walker.
