Matthew Shepard Foundation Honors
The 2014 Matthew Shepard Foundation Honors Gala, formerly known as Bear to Make a Difference, was held in the Seawell Grand Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts on October 11th. This year’s honorees included actor Stephen Fry, NBA player Jason Collins and Leslie Herod. The Matthew Shepard Foundation is dedicated to erasing hate through education, advocacy and awareness, by changing hearts and minds, pushing for improved reporting of hate crime statistics and calling for updates to state hate crime laws. The Foundation was created to honor Matthew, a 21-year old college student in Laramie, Wyoming, after his 1998 murder in a notorious anti-gay attack.
