Marianne Williamson: 2024 Presidential Candidate

Marianne Williamson

Marianne Williamson is a politician, activist, and writer with more than a dozen published books including A Politics of Love: A Handbook for a New American Revolution. Additionally she is the only officially declared democrat seeking a 2024 presidential nomination.

“I want to be president because this country needs to make an economic U-turn. Over the last 48 years, according to the Rand Corporation,” Williamson tells ABC News, “$50 trillion has been transferred from the bottom 90% of Americans to the top 1%. And the system that effectuates and perpetuates that kind of income and opportunity inequality is not changing itself.”

Williamson is no stranger to the world of politics; in 2014, she ran for California’s 33rd congressional district in the House of Representatives and announced her first run for presidential candidacy in 2019 but suspended her campaign shortly before the Iowa caucus in 2020.

“I have run for president before. I am not naïve about these forces which have no intention of allowing anyone into this conversation who does not align with their predetermined agenda,” she says. “I understand that, in their mind, only people who previously have been entrenched in the car that brought us into this ditch can possibly be considered qualified to bring us out of it.”

Recently launching her campaign, Williamson is currently the only democratic challenger to Biden for the upcoming election. According to a March poll by Echelon Insights, 57% of people surveyed said they would not like to see Joe Biden run for president in 2024, and 52% of Democratic voters would prefer someone besides Biden to be their 2024 nominee.

“According to much of the mainstream media, President Biden’s opponents simply do not exist. Speaking for myself, that is not what most bothers me… What bothers me is that, to them, the poor do not exist.” The democratic candidate recently states. “The chronic anxiety of those struggling to make ends meet does not exist. Hungry children in America do not exist. The corruption of their corporate sponsors does not exist. The destruction of the earth does not exist. Of course, they seek to invisible-ize those who bring up such inconvenient topics.”

“For those of us committed to democrats winning the White House in 2024, the president’s campaign announcement today was concerning.” Williamson says on Twitter, “His saying that he ‘knows America’ doesn’t seem to include his knowing the 39% of Americans who report skipping meals to pay rent, the one in four Americans living with medical debt, or an entire generation concerned that the tepid efforts of his administration to fight the climate crisis will rob them of a habitable planet.”

Williamson notes that she is concerned about healthcare, immigration, poverty, equality, workers’ rights, and climate change, and her website shows her plans to combat the mentioned issues and more.

“Our biggest crisis regarding the climate emergency is humanity’s massive state of denial that it exists on the scale it does. And our environmental crisis is not only about climate; it is also about water, air, food, and soil. As president, I will treat the problem holistically. Global warming harms the weather patterns which harms agriculture and animals which harms people’s capacity to live in certain areas which harms the city-to-rural ratio which harms social stability which creates a refugee crisis that all together leads toward untold catastrophe. What is imperative is that we awaken now and take immediate, bold steps to change course,” Williamson states in her Climate Action Policy statement.

“I look forward to a robust debate with Joe Biden, as I present to the American people my platform of fundamental economic reform as a far better way to win the White House in 2024 than the president’s incremental approacsh to governing.” Williamson proclaimes. “At such a critical time in our country, neither the President nor the DNC has the right to determine who and who is not a serious candidate. That is the right of the people alone.”
