Lil Nas X Speaks Out on Instagram Following LAPD Arrest

On Tuesday, August 26, Recording artist and Grammy winner Lil Nas X, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, released his first statement addressing his arrest and jail time due to his attacking Los Angeles police officers last week. The incident stemmed from Lil Nas X charging at police when they confronted him for walking naked down a Los Angeles street, as reported by the Associated Press.

Their report states that “officers found the 26-year-old walking naked on Ventura Boulevard, a major thoroughfare in the Studio City neighborhood, shortly before 6 a.m. Friday. They say he charged at the officers when confronted and was arrested.” Before being taken to jail, police took Hill to the hospital as they suspected a possible overdose.

Coverage from NBC News said that when Hill appeared before a judge on Monday, August 25, his attorney Christine O’Connor told the court he has no criminal history and doesn’t pose a flight risk, and stated that there was no evidence that drugs were involved. O’Connor referenced his Grammy awards, saying he has lived a “remarkable” life.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on $75,000 bail on the condition that he attend drug treatment regularly, according to the Associated Press.

Lil Nas X went on Instagram to say that the incident was “terrifying” when he was arrested and charged with four felony counts, including three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. He added, “Your girl is going to be OK. She’s going to be alright.”

Hill’s father also commented on the incident, via NBC News, “He’s going to get the help that he needs, and just keep him in your prayers. Give him the same grace and mercy that God gives everyone.”

NBC News also reported Hill is due in court on September 15.
