Lil Nas X Brushes Off Hate After BET Awards Kiss

Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X cooly brushed off his bigoted haters after they flooded the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with complaints following Nas’ onscreen kiss with a male dancer during his BET Awards performance.

Nas delivered yet another steamy performance of his iconic song “(Montero) Call Me By Your Name” feeling his full ancient Egypt fantasy. Clad in nothing but knee high gladiator sandals, a gold skirt, and a smattering of accessories, Nas busted out some sensual dance moves alongside his court of incredible (shirtless … glistening …) dancers. The final cherry on top of the jaw-dropping performance was an intense lip-lock between Nas and one of his dancers to close out the song.

It was mere minutes before the legion of conservatives who seem to track Nas’ every move sent a massive wave of complaints to the FCC. One of the messages obtained by TMZ read: “I was very disturbed to see 2 men practically having sexual [SIC] in the stage when the awards show is supposed to be a family show. It’s ridiculous and children and adults are being forced to endure this. Unacceptable and I will be unsubscribing from BET network. DISGUSTING AND DISTURBING!!!!!!!!”

Another homophobic viewer wrote in: “During a performance 2 gay men kissed. Why are you showing this on tv. It is disgusting and wrong for kids to see because it’s unnatural.” [SIC]

What these bigots seem to forget is that Lil Nas X couldn’t give less of a crap about their complaints, and neither could the entertainment industry. Sexual performances have been the norm since before the 22-year-old pop star was even born. Defenders of Nas criticized the conservatives’ hypocrisy for routinely targeting him while ignoring similar performances by straight stars, like Madonna’s onstage kiss with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in 2003.

In his trademark fashion, Nas took to Twitter to mess with the homophobes. However, in one tweet, Nas responded very openly to someone who accused him of “overcompensating” because of “insecurity” about his sexuality. “you’re right i am insecure about my sexuality. i still have a long way to go. i’ve never denied that,” Nas wrote back, “when you’re conditioned by society to hate yourself your entire life it takes a lot of unlearning. which is exactly why i do what i do.” [SIC]

Lil Nas X shared in an interview with People that the kiss was a planned move with a lot of thought that went into it. “I feel like it’s what needed to be done,” Nas said, “Because it’s easy to just hug a guy, but I feel like if you kiss the guy, you get straight to the point. I really sugarcoat the performance, and it gets the job done.” Some may also recognize the dancer Nas kissed as the same person who licked Nas’ neck during his similarly controversial SNL performance in May this year.

Lil Nas X’s debut album, Montero, is slated to be released this summer, featuring tracks like “Call Me By Your Name,” “Sun Goes Down,” and his newest drop, “Industry Baby.” Nas released a Marvel-style trailer for the album to Twitter with a compilation of shots from his music videos, including his iconic pole-ride to Hell.
