Lesbian Labor Union Leader Foolishly Criticized by J.D. Vance

Lesbian Labor Union Leader Randi Weingarten is “brainwashing children” according to the GOP’s Vice-Presidential Nominee J.D. Vance. Yup, you heard that right!

In October 2021 at a political event for the Center for Christian Virtue, Vance said in a statement, “So many of the leaders of the left, and I hate to be so personal about this, but they’re people without kids trying to brainwash the minds of our children. That really disorients me and disturbs me.” 

He then calls out Weingarten, saying, “Randi Weingarten, who’s the head of the most powerful teacher’s union in the country, she doesn’t have a single child. If she wants to brainwash and destroy the minds of children, she should have some of her own and leave ours the hell alone.”

This is not the only statement from 2021 Vance is facing backlash for. He also calls Democratic politicians and voters “childless cat ladies.”

Weingarten, the President of the American Federation of Teachers, is handling the conflated lies with grace and wit. 

“Teaching children is one of the most important things we can do regardless of whether we are parents or not.” She talks about her family with her wife’s children and her nieces and nephews and goes on to point out a very important fact: “Somebody doesn’t have to be a parent to be a great teacher. And in fact, so many great teachers in America—so many nuns in parochial schools—are fantastic teachers who teach compassion and caring and critical thinking and context.”

Weingarten is outspokenly opposed to conservative “school choice” initiatives and the limitations of queer children’s rights and expression in school. We don’t know why Republicans hate Weingarten particularly, but it could very well be because she is a lesbian labor union leader who supports public education.

Vance hasn’t specified how Weingarten is “brainwashing children.” His statement was made as a generalization of the “left ideology” and how they’re “controlling what our children learn.” 

Which is quite the irony when you consider the fact that the Republican party has implemented book bans across the nation and promises to cut funding to schools that continue to teach, in the words of Former President Donald Trump, “critical race theory, radical gender ideology, and other inappropriate, racial, sexual, or political content.”

This just goes to show how much Republicans care about critical thinking and well-rounded education.
