Lady Gaga will perform David Bowie tribute at the Grammys
David Bowie is getting the posthumous tribute he deserves this year at the Grammys. Last month, when we lost an iconic man who taught the world that it was more than okay to be yourself no matter what, the internet shut down. People from all over recalled how Bowie changed their lives in both small and huge ways.
Gaga was one of those people.
“When I fell in love with David Bowie, when I was living on the Lower East Side, I always felt that his glamor was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls,” she recalled to The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg. “He is a true, true artist and I don’t know if I ever went, ‘Oh, I’m going to be that way like this,’ or if I arrived upon it slowly, realizing it was my calling and that’s what drew me to him.”
“I just know that you can use the theater of your imagination to entertain people beyond their wildest dreams and then you can put something inside of that that changes the world, and that to me is when you make something truly great as an artist.”
According to the New York Times, a producer for the ceremony named Ken Ehrlich announced that Lady Gaga will honor Bowie. Nile Rodgers, a Bowie collaborator who produced his 1983 album Let’s Dance, will be the musical director for the tribute.
“It’s going to be a true homage to who David was, particularly musically, but not ignoring his influence on fashion and pop culture in a broader way,” Ehrlich said.
