Ke$ha claims small victory in sexual assault lawsuit

If you’ve been asking yourself where pop star Ke$ha has been, and why we haven’t heard any new catchy singles, then you aren’t alone.

For the past two years, she has been tied up in legal battles against label head Dr. Luke for sexual assault and battery. Her allegations include physical abuse and drug coercion. It also touches on verbal and emotional abuse. These allegations surfaced in 2014, and it didn’t take long for Dr. Luke to come back with a few lawsuits of his own.

Up until now, there has been a stall in news about the lawsuit, and where Ke$ha’s future music career stands. This week however, according to Business Insider, a judge dismissed Dr. Luke’s suits claiming that Kesha’s mom attempted to extort him to free her daughter from a contract tying her to his Kemosabe Records under Sony Music. In dismissing the suit, the judge ruled that he had no jurisdiction over Sebert in New York, though Luke has filed another suit against Sebert in her home state of Tennessee.

Still, Ke$ha is under contract with Luke’s label via Sony. This means that she is unable to record with anyone else. But, another hearing is scheduled in February to settle whether she can have the freedom to record outside of her agreement with Luke.
