Kaleb Rudy Releases New Single ‘Tornado (Lie With Me)’
In January, indie pop singer-songwriter and actor Kaleb Rudy released a song titled “Mess,” the second track from his upcoming debut visual EP My Own Volition. Today, he is back with the record’s third single, “Tornado (Lie With Me).”
“I think I’m even more excited to release this single than the other’s I’ve already put out off this EP,” the artist exclaims. “Giving this song a proper studio version has been a long time coming. The process of recoding it felt very experimental and free, and Scott Smith, my producer, and I found some unexpected elements in the production.”
My Own Volition follows the story of fictional star-crossed drifters Wes and Kaleb as they explore intimacy in a mobile home in the Santa Monica Mountains. Rudy keeps lyrics at the forefront of his music while using visuals to advance his storytelling, and every song on the EP will receive a video treatment.
“Tornado (Lie With Me)” focuses on the tension between excitement and fear when falling in love.
“It’s such a wonderful feeling, but you’re also afraid it’s just going to be taken away,” Rudy says.
Born in Colorado but raised across Virginia, Montana, Iowa, and California by the age of 12, the rural Midwest was not the only thing at odds with Rudy’s queer identity—His father is a Christian pastor. From guitar and songwriting to acting and filmmaking, he found any artistic outlet he could get his hands on.
Ultimately, Rudy hopes people will resonate with his newest track.
“I hope they see themselves in Wes & Kaleb in the visualizer,” he says. “There’s a lot of tenderness there and looming danger at the same time. I hope people take away that it’s OK to remember the beauty in even our scariest, ugliest experiences.
It is unknown as to when Rudy will release the album’s final two singles and visualizers, but he hopes to have all of My Own Volition out by the end of summer.
