Texas attorney general Ken Paxton is well known for targeting trans people and repeatedly testing their rights as human beings . He has attempted to do so by straight-up bullying tactics and several legal threats. A grown ass man, throwing child like fits.
This story, I’m afraid, is very familiar to many that we hear every day. Several conservative states are trying their hardest day by day to force the breaks on the rights of trans people consistently out of traction from those who support them. Because it is something so tangible to them, they will use that secret weapon as they wish, as long as those ballots bring them into office.
Fortunately, however, with the help of other states that validate the rights of transgender folks, they have decided to step it up and pass laws that protect those seeking treatment from being punished by Paxton’s brutal attempts at silencing trans voices.
Recently, an LGBTQ+ advocacy group by the name of PFLAG has filed a lawsuit against the state of Texas for a law that bans gender-affirming care for youth. To add on to this troubling bill, the attorney general wanted the families of transgender minors outed, along with their healthcare providers and health insurance companies. This would be super invasive to caregivers and patients.
With the passage of this law, families that had the resources to either move out or seek gender-affirming care in other states had plans to do so. Those without that ability have demanded edits to the chapters in the bill in order to maintain seeking care in the state of Texas.
Paxton’s office, however, tells a different story saying that they wanted to find “misrepresentations regarding gender transitions and reassignment treatments and procedures.” However, those were all found to be lies after reporting to The Washington Post that their true intentions were to find if insurance companies were committing a scheme to evade the law and continue to offer treatment to minors. Claiming then that those providers would be held accountable.
The classic claims that these laws are aimed at “protecting children” is a super bassless claim that they like to use in order to get away with these laws. But the eyes become blind when it comes to guns killing children in educational settings. Hypocritical.
On a happier note, however, a Texas judge agreed with the groups claims of Paxton’s agenda towards trans families being invasive and also with a claim for a senior counsel that argues that the group standing up for our trans community as a fire of retaliation from the attorney general.
