Colorado Native is a Native American comedy showcase, one of the only Native American showcases in the world and the first of its kind in Colorado. Its uniqueness makes it all the more exciting that Colorado Native will be hosted by DeadRoom Comedy on Saturday, January 14, at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder. Indigenous comedians like Jordan Ayayi, Jason Alexander, and Josh Fournier take the stage to benefit Creative Nations. Show Creator and Host Jordan Emerson said, “It is my life’s pursuit to let the world know how funny Natives are.”
In addition, Two Thunders Tattoo, a self-described Indigenous/queer owned tattoo parlor based in downtown Denver, will be having a flash sale fundraiser on Thursday, January 12, also to benefit Creative Nations. Cante Eagle Horse, who specializes in floral, nature related, fine line, and traditional tattoos, and Tanner Minock, who focuses on black and gray geometric, botanical, and anatomical subjects, established Two Thunders in 2020.
Creative Nations, an Indigenous-led art collective, aims “to create a space for creation and collaboration, as well as foster opportunities for all Indigenous artists to thrive.” In pursuit of that goal, they have established a permanent, on-site space at the Dairy Arts Center for Indigenous artists to display their work.
In September 2022, Creative Nations held the Grand Opening for the Sacred Space, celebrating with an “exhibition of diverse creations of Contemporary Indigenous Artists with ties to their ancestral territory of Colorado.” The establishment of the Sacred Space represents progress toward one of Creative Nations’ four main goals, the other three being accurate representation, focus on the next generation, inclusion, and balance. A more in-depth description of these goals can be found on their website.
The Colorado Native comedy showcase takes place at the Dairy Arts Center—2590 Walnut St, Boulder, CO 80302–on Saturday, January 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for Adults or $10 for students. To purchase tickets, click here.
