Jonathan Joss, ‘King of the Hill’ Actor, Killed in Shooting

Jonathan Joss

Jonathan Joss, best known as the voice actor for character John Redcorn from “King of the Hill,” was killed in a shooting on Sunday in San Antonio, Texas, police say. Authorities attempted life-saving measures until EMS arrived and pronounced Joss dead at 59, according to NBC News.

Sigredo Alvarez Ceja, a 56-year-old suspect, has been taken into custody and booked with a murder charge, the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) says. The department continues its investigation into Joss’ death, though there hasn’t been any more information released.

Tristan Kern de Gonzales, Joss’ husband, alleges on social media that he was killed in a homophobic attack at their old home. Tristan says the couple was “harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship.” He adds, “much of the harassment was openly homophobic.”

Tristan says the couple was checking mail when they noticed the skull of their dog and the dog’s harness placed out front when they began “yelling and crying.”

A man approached them yelling slurs then fired at the couple, Tristan says.

“Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life,” Tristan says in the social media post.

Tristan alleged in a statement in January that he previously reported threats neighbors had made about destroying their home.

”Despite online claims of this being a hate crime, currently the investigation has found no evidence to indicate that … Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation,” SAPD says on X.

Joss was the voice actor for John Redcorn in the King of the Hill animated series Seasons 2 through 13. A new season of the series’ revival is set to debut on Hulu in August that includes the John Redcorn character.
