Joe Biden Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer

Joe Biden Cancer

News has broken recently that Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer. The former United States President discovered a “small nodule” on his prostate a week ago, according to Out Magazine. A spokesperson for Biden “declined to elaborate on any additional details” about the diagnosis when reached for comment, leaving the country speculating about the severity.

On May 18, Biden and his team released a health update in a statement:

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms.

On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone. While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”

Biden’s physical and mental wellness were targeted by Donald Trump and JD Vance during the presidential race of 2024. The Democratic Party initially stood by Biden’s reelection campaign until July 2024 when the state of his health further came into question. This led to Biden dropping out of the race, allowing Vice President Kamala Harris to run against Trump.

Prostate cancer is the second deadliest form of cancer in men by percent (11%) followed by colon and rectum (9%), Pancreas (8%), and Liver (6%) according to Unity Point Health. The only form more deadly is lung and bronchus cancer (20%).

One in eight men “will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime” according to The American Cancer Society, with an estimated 35,770 deaths projected in the U.S. this year. Six in 10 prostate cancer diagnoses are from men who are 65 or older with the average age being 67. Biden is now 80 years old. We’ll share more news about the diagnoses once it becomes available.
