Jinkx Monsoon in New Standup Special Red Head Redemption

Jinkx Monsoon

Despite proliferating drag bans and proposed legislation that could limit drag artists’ rights to perform, debuting drag comedy specials from fan-favorite artists are sure to show everyone why drag belongs everywhere, and why drag isn’t dangerous.

Jinkx Monsoon, RuPaul’s Drag Race fan favorite to many, has kept busy since her introduction to the public eye back in 2013 on the fifth season of the show. From acting in Chicago on Broadway, playing a villain in Doctor Who, to touring the country, she has dazzled those lucky enough to catch one of her shows or see her on the screen. Viewers and fans of Jinkx ravenous for more, can now get their fill on ‘Red Head Redemption,’ a brand new comedy special now streaming.

“Follow Jinkx Monsoon through the weaving tale of her booze-addled, sex-filled, gender-defying life. In this (extremely) candid standup special, Jinkx shares her experiences as a trans-femme, nonbinary, alcoholic, and ethical slut. You’ll learn more than you ever wanted to know about her journey of self-discovery–leading her to her husband, sobriety, and to be the first queen to win Drag Race twice! And she sings!”

The synopsis of the special tells us. Revealing more about herself as an actress, comedian, and musician, Red Head Redemption shows Jinkx in a way never seen before.

“After season five, I convinced myself that people only wanted to see the person they saw on TV and I started trying to do that. Not because I thought it was interesting or what I wanted to do. I thought people wanted to see Jinkx, the person on season five of Drag Race. But that was toothless! It wasn’t based on me being present with my audience or myself.” Jinkx says.

“It was a slow climb to reintroduce my audiences to who Jinkx the character is and how she’s different from Jinkx the human being. But over the years, I stuck at it and now people come to my show knowing exactly what to expect.”

The special is both hilarious and entertaining, yet simultaneously personal and passionate, giving viewers the best of both worlds with a savory and bittersweet intimate look into the life of the twice-crowned winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

In addition to Red Head Redemption, Jinkx Monsoon has been working diligently, putting together her next project, Everything At Stake, a 44-city tour that is kicking off later this month on June 12th.

“It’s Everything at Stake because this is the most attention I’ve had on me in some time, and I want to show the world why I deserve that attention.” Monsoon mentions.

“That’s where it started, and since coming to this title, the world continues to be a fucking shit show. And the title now has multiple meanings, of course, that will find its way into my work for this tour. I’m too loud-mouthed and opinionated for me not to bring what’s going on in the world into my work.”

With increased discriminatory legislation towards drag artists and those of the LGBTQ community, many drag artists are brainstorming ways to show both their support for those caught in the crossfire of the ongoing issue, and most importantly, lead as examples, being themselves in an unapologetic and authentic way.

Upcoming drag comedy specials can be expected from not only Jinkx Monsoon with their standup special ‘Red Head Redemption’, but also five other Drag Race favorites, including Darienne Lake (Altered Boy), Peppermint (So-Sigh-Ety Effects), BeBe Zahara Bene (Africa Is Not A Country), Ginger Minj (Bless Your Heart), and Monét X Change (Fist Of Glory).

In collaboration with Comedy Dynamics, the largest independent comedy production and distribution company in the country, and Tribeca Film, all of the highly anticipated comedic drag specials will be available for streaming on Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Youtube, Vimeo, and cable providers worldwide, ensuring accessibility for anyone with an interest to watch them this pride month.
