LGBTQ recording artist Jack Tracy shines a light on domestic violence in queer relationships with his new music video for his track, “Close.” Tracy is an NYC-based artist known for creating infectious music and film that draws from his own experiences with dating and relationships. The stunning visuals in the “Close” music video perfectly capture the confusion and heartbreak that comes with being involved with domestic violence.
The video begins with Tracy telling his story from a dark, dungeon-like club scene. Clips of Tracy and his partner in an empty loft flash across the screen to give some insight into the state of their private lives. You see the couple laying together in an embrace or dancing together, but a mirror in the loft shows the true story of their abusive relationship.
In this passionate video, Tracy takes his viewers through a devastating sequence of events that is reminiscent of his own past relationships.
“I wanted to capture how domestic violence is often something we learn about after the fact, that it’s something hidden to all but the couple–a secret,” Tracy explains. “I think there’s an added element of confusion when it’s a same-sex relationship. When a man hits a woman, society is pretty clear that this is unacceptable. But when the violence is between two men, for instance, I think there are those that don’t see it quite as black and white.”
As the video progresses, Tracy is seen lounging in a heavenly bungalow while singing “Wounds you can’t repair/Do you regret the path you chose/ I survived but it was close/It was too close.” This is a striking visual contrast to the beginning of the video, as the singer reflects on his past relationship that ended so coldly.
Tracy’s artistry expands far beyond his music career.
