It’s Spooktacular season again!

It’s Spooktacular season again!

It won’t just be ghosts and ghouls roaming the streets of Denver this Halloween. The Mile High Freedom Band, an all-inclusive nonprofit band supporting the LGBT community and beyond, is encouraging people to pull out their best Brad and Janet costumes and join them in their second annual Spooktacular! Spooktacular! Double Feature. The spooky event will take place Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Kim Robards Dance Theater, with a 3:30 p.m. matinee for the costume-clad kiddos, and the 21-and-up show starting at 7:30 p.m.

All of the thrilling chills of Spooktacular! Spooktacular! are creations of art director Rice Majors, with the famous and ever so fabulous Eda Bagel emceeing the event as the mistress of ceremonies.

“A lot of the vision behind Spooktacular! Spooktacular! is Rice’s,” said Clark Vander Broek, marketing director for the Mile High Freedom Band.

Along with a number of songs for the Mile High Freedom Band to perform, Majors has also secured a variety of guest performers for the event, including hula-hoop artist Randy VonFeldt.

The Mile High Freedom Band will perform kid-friendly songs for the children’s showing, and for the grown ups, a variety of songs from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Edward Scissorhands, A Space Odyssey and Thriller. And like any good late-night showing, audience participation will be encouraged. Majors hopes audience members will dress in costume and take advantage of the Thriller dance workshop.

Tickets are $10 for children and $20 for adults. Vander Broek said there’s also a special Patron Package that guests can purchase.

“The $30 Patron Package includes a private reception before the event,” Vander Broek said. “It’s an opportunity to meet and greet with [director] Rice and the show’s host Eda Bagel, and some of the other cast members.”

The Patron Package private reception will also include complimentary beverages.

One of the most interesting parts of the event is the Spooktacular! Spooktacular! Bizarre Bazaar, where costumes and other Halloween-themed goodies will be sold. The Bizarre Bazaar will open one hour prior to each show, and patrons can buy some Halloween-themed candy and treats to munch on during the show.

So when Halloween weekend rolls around, settle in for the late night double-feature picture show with the Mile High Freedom Band.
