Introducing the Colorado Music Industry Alliance
The Colorado music scene has produced many great artists and names over the years. One thing the scene has suffered from has been not the lack of people and organizations working to boost the scene, but the lack of unity in that boosting. Artist manager and consultant Kelsy Lartius Miguel and hip-hop artist and event producer DNA Picasso have come together to create The Colorado Music Industry Alliance (CMIA) as a solution.
CMIA is a nonprofit organization designed to unite the various talents, producers, venues, radio stations and other industry professionals to work together towards the goal of growing Colorado’s music scene. Co-founder Lartius Miguel explains, “The reality is that we cannot build and grow a successful, diverse, and equitable music industry here without ensuring that we’re keeping and attracting those who are on the business side of the equation too. Artists cannot do it all on their own, and we need more of that industry infrastructure here in order to make real change.”
Their three key values are quality, community, and diversity. In order to organize the music industry, resources need to be pooled and assessed, and education needs to be made more accessible. They also are looking to advocate for policy changes that will reflect the interests of the community in politics. To truly unite the music industry in Colorado, they want to provide as many resources as possible. In their first year, the CMIA’s main goal is to assess what there currently is to offer, and to make it more accessible. Finding the gaps in what is needed and then filling in those gaps will be a focus as well.
The first CMIA mixer will be on October 9 at Fort Greene Bar (321 East 45th Street, Denver, CO 80205) from 6 – 9 p.m. It is 21+, though they hope to have future all-ages events. If you would like to network with other music industry professionals, you can RSVP here. To get involved you can visit their website.
