Introducing Rowdy Poppy: A Queer-Woman-Owned Floral Shop in Denver
We are all healers, lovers, writers, photographers, musicians and even…
Rowdy Poppy, the queer-woman-owned and sustainably grown intimate floral farm and design house, is officially open and ready to connect with the community!
Established in 2018 by Kim Zimmerman, a master gardener, Rowdy Poppy works as an intimate flower farm and design studio, hand-selecting some of Denver’s most exquisite flowers and arrangements. Rowdy Poppy’s growing and procurement methods were developed from the ground up with an emphasis on being environmentally friendly, local, and in-season.
Behind the scenes, the shop operates with sustainability at its core, collaborating with local farms that prioritize ethical farming practices and ensuring that every flower picked supports responsible agriculture.
In essence, this sustainable, queer-owned floral shop isn’t just a place to buy flowers—It’s a sanctuary that celebrates nature, creativity, and inclusivity. It embodies a space where everyone feels welcome and inspired.

Located at 3463 Walnut Street, Denver, CO, the shop awaits you!
How does Rowdy Poppy connect with the community?
We were able to donate a proportion of our sales to organizations. We also loved to hand out free flowers to healthcare workers to thank them for their hard work, especially during COVID.
How was business during COVID?
During COVID, it was a difficult time for others to show their appreciation to someone, but experimenting with flowers was a wonderful way to show that. It was also a pivotal moment for the business, and that’s when I decided I wanted to pursue this business in a creative way.
How did your interest in florals start?
My mother and grandmother always had lots of plants around the house. The journey truly began in 2018, when I established flowerbeds in my backyard and began cultivating my own flowers. I attended school for psychology and design, and then I had the brilliant idea to open a floral shop that included a design studio and a workshop space for the community to foster creativity.
What is Rowdy Poppy to the community?
I want it to be a safe space, and I want to implement educational resources for people interested in floral.
What is the future for Rowdy Poppy?
In order to maintain our sustainability as a florist shop, we source some of our flowers from The Infinite Monkey Theorem, conveniently located within walking distance from our shop. I’m looking forward to implementing a training program to educate others interested in getting into florals. I used to teach design workshops, and I want to continue to be a part of the community and teach through my workshops and training programs at Rowdy Poppy.
What are your favorite flowers?
I love the fun and weird ones those are my favorites, and I love getting creative with them!

What's Your Reaction?
We are all healers, lovers, writers, photographers, musicians and even magicians when we live courageously. Todos tenemos una voz y luz. xoxo
