Indigenous Lieutenant Governor Stands for Trans Youth Rights.

Kamala Harris’ chances of winning in the fall are high, as is the possibility of an Indigenous lieutenant governor replacing Tim Walz, who is also an LGBTQ+ ally in Minnesota. Many progressives are ecstatic about the continuation of having trans activists on board.

Her name is Peggy Flanagan, and she’s a democratic politician who has been lieutenant gov. of Minnesota since 2019. She is well known for her approach to community event organizations and is a proud Native American activist. As an Indigenous woman, she honorably advocates for many marginalized groups, including the trans community. If Harris is elected, she will be the first Indigenous woman in history to serve as governor. “Working together across lines of difference to get things done,” reads her X bio.

Flanagan began her political career advocating for Indigenous communities and teaching Indigenous schools. She strongly advocates for youth and is open about her approach to change so that trans youth have equal rights to healthcare and reliable transitioning access.

Last year, after one of her public press conferences, the media was raving about her. During her speech, she wore a t-shirt that said “protect trans kids.”

“This is life-affirming and life-saving healthcare,” she say during the conference. “When our children tell us who they are, it is our job as grown-ups to listen and to believe them. That’s what it means to be a good parent.”

The shirt is available for $30 at Transfigure Print Company, a trans-owned print shop well known for advocating and raising money for LGBTQ+ organizations.

While progressives absolutely loved her appearance and couldn’t wait to support her, conservatives, on the other hand, were quite upset. Libs of TikTok said on X, “Peggy Flanagan says ‘when our children tell us who they are, it is our job as grown-ups to listen and to believe them’ while advocating for trans surgeries & hormones for minors.

“She’s wearing a shirt which suggests physical violence against those who don’t go along with the trans agenda targeting kids.”

Despite the comments from conservatives, hundreds of replies from X under the image of her wearing the tee shirt have proved that she has a lot of support.
