Hello Homo! A New Weekly column!
Hello Homo!
Hey, I am Jess (he/him/his). I am an LGBTQ+ specialized psychotherapist, writer, and I am very passionate about LGBTQ+ social justice. I have been writing for OFM for over a year.
If you are reading this, you are probably queer or LGBTQ+ adjacent. If that is the case, you are also probably aware of how amazing being queer is and how special LGBTQ+ culture is. That is especially true for the LGBTQ+ culture highlighted in OFM. At the same time, you are most likely also aware of the unique challenges and adversity we LGBTQ+ people face daily while existing in the cis-heteronormative world.
That is exactly the motivation behind launching a new column, Hello Homo! This new weekly addition to OFM is a community resource to help address challenges we queer people face while amplifying the magic of being LGBTQ+.
I use my personal experience as an LGBTQ+ mental health specialist and queer researcher to help direct readers to important resources to uplift and empower queer self-esteem of my readers, and support LGBTQ+ communities of the Rocky Mountain Region.
So, welcome! I invite any and all questions; just know I may not get to answer them directly. I will select one question a week to respond to. As a therapist, I must note that this column is not a therapeutic support, but rather community resource gathering. If I do not have an answer or if a question is outside my scope, I will bring in community leaders and experts who can best speak to the topic.
Stay tuned! This is going to be fun! The interviews I have already conducted have been a blast! For the next month, I will be answering questions related to the election and poltical stress/burnout.
