Last Thursday, father of school shooting victim and gun reform activist Manuel Oliver criticized Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) over her statement following a school shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.
“Shame on anyone who is praying today instead of reacting before,” he says in an interview with Scripps News.
Following the shooting of two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, Greene wrote on X “Let us join together in prayer for the victims of the school shooting at Apalachee High School and their families just as these students of AHS circled together in prayer today.”

“I’m just listening to the quotes from members of Congress and they’re praying? They’re asking us to pray? And everyone is listening to them,” Oliver says. “You have a governor in that place that is asking us to pray … That is not enough, and that is not working.”
Oliver and his wife Patricia Oliver are the leaders of nonprofit “Change the Ref,” which uses “urban art and nonviolent creative confrontation to expose the disastrous effects of the mass shooting pandemic.” The pair lost their son in the 2018 shooting of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Marjorie Taylor Greene is known for harassing survivor David Hogg and accusing him of being a “crisis actor.”
On the day of the shooting LGBTQ Nation reported Greene’s X bio as reading “100% Pro-Life Pro-Gun Pro-Trump;” however, as of the 15th, it only reads, “Christian, Mother, American.” She claimed that both the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary and 2018 Stoneman Douglas High School shootings were “false-flag operations.” Greene has also made campaign ads and posted videos of her shooting guns on social media.
Manuel and Patricia Oliver are currently touring the U.S. to educate and advocate for gun reform. In 2023, they were arrested at a Gun Law Hearing in D.C. for accusing Republican lawmakers of being liars. Manuel Oliver’s one-man show about the loss of his son, “GUAC,” is currently touring the United States.
