GoFundMe campaign set up for Orlando victims passes $3 million

Following the tragedy in Orlando at Pulse Nightclub on Sunday, LGBT advocacy group Equality Florida established a GoFundMe page to raise money in support of the victims and their families.

The page reads …

We are reeling from the tragic news that a gunman opened fire on the 2am capacity crowd at Pulse leaving 50 people dead and over 50 injured according to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

We are heartbroken and angry that senseless violence has once again destroyed lives in our state and in our country.

Gay clubs hold a significant place in LGBTQ history. They were often the only safe gathering place and this horrific act strikes directly at our sense of safety. June commemorates our community standing up to anti-LGBTQ violence at the Stonewall Inn, the nightclub that has become the first LGBTQ site recognized as a national monument.

In just over 24 hours, the campaign has raised more than $3 million.

The amount of love and compassion felt around the world towards the victims and their families of the Pulse shooting is a testament to the incredible good is in the world. Thank you for your contributions.

We are currently working to raise as much as possible for these victims and their families, as well as distribute the fund as fast as possible. We have a team of attorneys and organizations who are experts in this process facilitating next steps. We will be setting up a hotline soon for all victims and their families to begin this process.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is how you show support. We appreciate the prayers and heartwarming Facebook posts, but those do nothing to help our queer brothers and sisters. Check out the page and donate some money!
