Goode morning, sinners! Rupaul’s Drag Race Season 12 runner-up Gigi Goode has come out as trans and nonbinary!
Mrs. Goode hopped on Instagram to share with her followers that she’s recovering from a facial feminization surgery. In the video captioned “lemme explain,“ she was dressed all comfy cozy at home, relaxing post-operation. She explains how, in January, she started “the process of hormone replacement therapy,” and states that she now uses only she/her pronouns.
If you watched Season 12 of Drag Race, you’ll remember the 23-year-old model came out as genderfluid. In her appearance on the show, she says, “I don’t think I’ve ever said this out loud, but I think I’m fluid. Sometimes I identify as more male, and sometimes I identify as more feminine. I think that I’m both … and I’m neither.”
Gigi says she still feels she identifies as genderfluid; however, she feels she’s “leaning more towards the nonbinary side of that.” There’s so much going on during filming Drag Race that Goode feels she never really had time to reflect on her feelings and truly process her thoughts on her identity. She finally received that much-needed reflection time during quarantine and is appreciative of the pandemic for allowing her the space to “think and reflect.” If it wasn’t for the world shutting down, she would have immediately started touring, further hindering her self realization process.
“If the world hadn’t shut down, and I was going on tour, I really wouldn’t have been able to process it further,”
She also credits the HBO show Veneno for helping her better understand herself and her identity. More specifically, she gives love to the characters and the actresses who help sparked her realizations. Gigi also noted when she first began transitioning, she wanted it to be more private, only telling her mother and a few close friends to feel safe from the influences of social media. Finally, she let fans know she’s currently in the process of changing her name legally to Gigi.
Fellow Drag Race alums showered her post with comments of acceptance and support. A couple hours later, she took to Twitter to share her appreciation for the love she’s been receiving.
“Feeling all the love today, Thank you all so much.”
