Gay hamburger serves up controversy

For San Francisco’s Pride, Burger King released a limited edition wrapper to their Whopper burgers with pro-gay language and rainbow design. It was only distributed at one Burger King location in San Francisco, and only for Pride, but the limitations didn’t stop the homophobia.

Briki1YCEAAOedHSome customers received the burger with the positive message “We Are All The Same Inside” and were outraged that they too share all of the organs, feelings, emotions, and body functions as a gay person. They took their rage to social media and created the hashtag #BoycottBurgerKing.

GayStarNews collected some of the more homophobic tweets, and if you get the wild hair, you can read them here.

Possible Presidential hopeful (and probable loser) Herman Cain has also joined the conversation with a tweet and link.

The link leads to a caintv.com article with offensive language that compares gay people to murderers, drunk drivers, and adulterers. To give you a sense of the article, the title is “Flaming Broiled” and the following is an excerpt:

Yeesh. All of this nonsense over a hamburger wrapper that was limited to a LGBT event in one of the biggest LGBT cities in the world? Priorities, homophobes.

Luckily, public opinion sways in favor of LGBT rights and Burger King’s facebook feed. Check out the support and love below:
