Gay Couple Killed in Air India Plane Crash
On Tuesday, June 12, an Air India Boeing 787-8 was destined for Gatwick, London, but crashed into a medical college shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport, killing more than 240 people. Among the victims were Jamie Greenlaw-Meek, 45, a former BBC TV show DanceX contestant, and his husband, Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, both part of the group of 53 brits and 169 Indian nationals on the flight when it crashed. The two co-founded a wellness and lifestyle company called the Wellness Foundry which Greenlaw-Meek made a video for earlier this year to promote their work.
A moment of silence was held at Ramsgate Pride on Saturday, June 14, to honor the two who were due to host a wellbeing workshop at the event. Jamie and Fiongal posted a video on their Instagram saying “Goodbye India.” Fiongal says, asking his husband, “What’s your biggest takeaway, Jamie?” “I don’t know,” Jamie joked. “My biggest takeaway is never lose patience in your partner.” Fiongal laughs and looks back at the camera, “going back happily, happily calm.”
The night before, the two also took to social media to update their friends and followers saying, “So, it’s our last night in India and we’ve had quite a magical experience really. There’s been some quite mind-blowing things have happened. We’re going to put this all together and create a vlog.
“I think this is my first ever vlog,” he laughs “There’s been too much not to document it,” he adds. “It would just be so nice to remember this and to share it with everybody because we really have been on quite a journey. And then just spending the last night here in this amazing hotel, and we’ve just had the most delicious Thali food. It was the perfect way to round up the trip, so yeah. Excited to share it all with you, actually!”
