Frenchie Davis is busy. Most recently she has performed on the hit NBC television series The Voice. Her opening number, “I Kissed a Girl” drew rave responses from the national audience as well as the show’s judges. Cee Lo Green said, “That’s my soul sister up there throwing down. I love everything you do, it’s perfect every time.”
It’s hard to describe Davis’ sound in a few words. Her voice is soulful. She will reach deep inside you and rock your world with her powerful, controlled and immense vocal range. If you don’t have tears in your eyes while experiencing one of her performances, you had better get your ears and eyes checked.
Davis came in second place on Christina Aguilera’s team on the first season of The Voice. With an astounding vocal career, which includes her recording of the song “You Are” which made it to the #5 spot on Billboard Magazine’s “Hot Club Play Chart,” it is clear that this performer is indeed doing something right.
Davis spoke about early influences and her love of performing at Pride festivals.
We hear rumor that a full-length LP is in the works.
Yes! I am so excited about it, part of the challenge for me has been focusing my love of all kinds of music into one musical direction. It’s going to make people dance, it’s going to be soulful and it will be influenced by my not-so-secret love of rock music. And, of course, I am going to give the kids a fierce power ballad or two.
What do you find special about performing at Pride festivals?
I love performing at Pride festivals because it allows me the time to connect with my original fan base and return some love to the community who has embraced me and kept me working from day one. It is so important to me that the gay community know how much I genuinely love and appreciate them.
Did you have any early influences that helped you along the way?
So many singers have influenced my love of music, but my favs include Aretha Franklin, Dinah Washington, Freddie Mercury from Queen, Grace Jones, Tina Turner, Blondie, Heart and Sylvester.
Can you compare a few of the differences and your experiences from appearing on TV shows, theatrical performances and music performances?
Out of all of the experiences I’ve had, I love live performances, more than anything, I love interacting with the audience.
You have such a diverse portfolio. Do you have a favorite? Or what you would like to focus on in the near future?
I don’t have a fav’. I genuinely love everything that I do, but my focus in the near future will be making music.
Any last remarks?
Thank you for wanting to talk to me, and a huge thank you to all of your readers who have supported me throughout this journey. I hope I continue to make them proud. I love you all!
