Ford Swiftly Handles Bigot with a Big Rainbow Clap Back

When a bigot decided to leave their anti-gay remarks in the comments of a Ford truck advertisement, the company did not hesitate to clap back in the biggest, rainbow-est way possible.

After releasing a video announcing their new Ford Ranger Raptor truck in Germany, one viewer made it clear that he was not a fan. “Well, that’s a cool car!—but that blue color is very Gay!!” he wrote, “Hey Ford! Paint it in BlackNGold or camo!”

Ford Europe didn’t miss a beat. On June 25, the company posted a video to their Twitter account taking the rude commenter’s suggestion in stride. The video showed the company designing a glittering, black-and-gold truck just as the user requested, topping off the updated color scheme with a a rainbow streak on the vehicle’s side and a pink heart encircling its logo on the back. As the cherry on top, Ford captioned the Tweet: “‘Very Gay’ was a compliment, right? #VeryGayRaptor.”

Ford Europe then released a statement saying it wanted to make its stance on anti-gay discriminatory speech “very clear.”

But the car producer still had one more trick up its sleeve. Just in case the video didn’t get their point across, Ford went the extra mile to make the Very Gay Raptor Truck a reality. After 60 long hours of intricate wrapping, foils, and decals, the queer-mobile hit the streets of Cologne, Germany to celebrate Christopher Street Day, the Berlin Pride celebration.

The Very Gay Raptor was joined by fellow Pride car the Ford KA, a rainbow-wrapped car that made its Cologne debut back in 1998. You gotta admit, the two vehicles are quite a striking pair!

Ford’s fun retaliation has captured the attention of millions of online viewers who are praising the company for giving the corporate world a masterclass in allyship. Hopefully more companies will take note.
