FKA Christine and the Queens Talks Name and Pronoun Change

Christine and the Queens

The French artist formerly known as Christine and the Queens posted a TikTok on August 18, 2022 discussing his pronouns, journey with gender, and newly expanded moniker, Christine and the Queens Presents Redcar, confirmed by his PR manager. Christine and the Queens Presents Redcar is an indie electropop experimental artist with albums such as Chaleur Humaine (2014), Chris (2018), and La Vita Nuova (2020).

Chris, the artist, is officially using he/him pronouns, as stated in his Instagram profile. He spoke openly about this gender journey in his TikTok video. He has been out to his close family in friends regarding his gender for a while, saying, “I’ve been a man for a year, a little more officially in my family and in my relationship. It is a long process.”

Likewise, Chris has been slowly allowing the press insight his gender journey.

Chris has explored gender from the very beginning of his music career, with the lyric, “I get it now / I’m a man,” featured in his debut album, Chaleur Humaine, in the song “iT.” He’s also always been very open about his sexuality, saying in a 2016 interview with BBC that he is pansexual.

“It means that I can fall in love with someone regardless of their gender, regardless of how they define themselves,” he says. Similarly, many artists and celebrities are becoming more open about their gender identity and sexuality in recent years, including Demi Lovato and Lafemmebear.

In his three-minute TikTok video, Chris announced his new artistic moniker, Christine and the Queens Presents Redcar, saying, “Redcar, like all my poetry and philosophy, is poetry and philosophy that helps me be successful.” Redcar also announced a new album on his Instagram on July 6, 2022, called Redcar les adorables etoiles (prologue). This album is scheduled for release on September 23, 2022.
