The First Official Same-Sex Pagan Wedding Held in the UK
Gay weddings are sweeping the globe, and breaking through all kinds of barriers. Last week we told you about the first same-sex wedding in a Mennonite church, well now, the UK held the first official same-sex Pagan wedding!
Yes, you heard us correctly. Pagan wedding. On January 18th, in what used to serve as an interrogation room during the witch hunts of the 16th century, Tom Lanting (34) and Iain Robertson (39), tied the knot in a handfasting ceremony held in Edinburgh. The duo cast a circle, garnered the elements, exchanged rings, and drank mead from a two-handed cup called a quaich.
Now, after 12 years the two Hedge Witches are forever united in the eyes of their family and friends. After the ceremony, the couple said, “Getting married in a legal Pagan ceremony means so much to both of us. As Hedge Witches we always wanted to have a Pagan marriage ceremony in line with our beliefs and it was really important to us to be able to share this ceremony with our friends and family.”
Congratulations, boys! You did, and we’re happy for you!
