Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter to Golden Age Hollywood stars Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, has long been an ally to the LGBTQ community. The younger Curtis, who is perhaps best known for her work in the Halloween films, though she has played many other roles, has shown her support for LGBTQ people on a number of occasions.
In 2012, she appeared in a staged reading of the play 8, a reenactment of the trial which overturned California’s ban on same sex marriage. The production served as a fundraiser for the American Foundation for Equal Rights, a nonprofit established in 2009 to support the plaintiffs in the lawsuit which sought to overturn the California ban.
In June 2016, the Human Rights Campaign released a video to honor the victims in the mass shooting at Pulse, an LGBTQ nightclub in Florida. Curtis was one of the celebrities in the video who shared stories of the 49 people who were killed at Pulse.
More recently, Curtis announced that she would star, produce, and direct a film called How We Sleep at Night: the Sara Cunningham Story, a true-life drama about a devout, Christian mom coming to terms with her gay son.
But now, Curtis’ support for LGBTQ people has hit close to home. In an interview with AARP Magazine, Curtis shared that she and her husband Christopher Guest “watched in wonder and pride as our son became our daughter Ruby.” Yes, Curtis’ daughter Ruby is transgender, and the actress couldn’t be happier.
Ruby is one of two children adopted by Curtis and Guest. The couple also have a 34-year-old daughter named Annie.
Curtis further revealed that Ruby is set to get married next year.
“She and her fiancé will get married next year at a wedding that I will officiate,” the actress was quoted. It was stressed that Curtis had made this revelation with her daughter’s permission.
As for whether or not she’ll become a grandmother at some point in the future, Curtis told AARP Magazine “not yet, but I do hope to.”
We congratulate Ruby on her upcoming nuptials. And we salute Curtis for being such a good mom!
