Fierce, Femme Music Finds :: June 2021
Intersectionality, accessibility, and squashing the sexist, patriarchal norms through queer…
So much music, so little time! While Pride month may be coming to a close, these artists are making sure to keep our playlists fresh, all summer long. Kings, queens, and everyone in between, whether you’re hitting the dance floor, riding with those windows down, or grabbing those roller skates, you’ll find something you love in this list!
Crystal Murray – “Like it Nasty”
The formidable union of R&B, rap, French house, and neo soul ushers us into a new fierce, inciting feelings of raw and soulful sex-appeal. Diving into a new sound, the unexpected direction from the up-and-coming, unique and untamable artist has our thirst-traps quenched in the new song, and video to boot. The high-energy track will absolutely get you all hot-and-bothered, and ready for sweaty nights on the dance floor.

Jessie J – “I Want Love”
We are getting some fierce, disco-realness with the latest release from the iconic Jessie J. “I Want Love” will get your ass on that dance floor and deliver to the crowd. From the hook, we are caught up in the glam, pop palm of her hand and land softly in a space that urges us to be ok with dancing on our own. The singer admitted in an Instagram post that the song was birthed out of a fight that she had with her best friend and led her to an empty bar, where she danced away her fears and cares, into the wee hours of the morning.

BAYLi with ILoveMakonnen – “Sick!”
Dirty beats are met with an unforgettable melody in “Sick!.” The queer, Black collaboration brings inventive lyrical power while staying true to that “new Brooklyn” sound. With BAYLi’s polished production, that has been refined without losing that DIY aesthetic, ILoveMakonnen pulls in the Atlanta, rap scene in a real way and stirs the magical pot of street fresh with authentic embellishments. Blending a slick and confident charisma with an unapologetic, punk rock attitude, you won’t be able to get “Sick!” out of your head.

Mabel – “Let Them Know”
The inspiration is decipherable in the latest track from the fast-rising starlet, Mabel. The singer found herself reflecting on the role of dance, expression, liberation, and inclusion after re-watching the queer, iconic staples Paris is Burning, Pose, and Drag Race. The track features Mable’s fearless mindset alongside her candor and ability to turn out a powerhouse track. Dress up and get in trouble with this anthem of supreme, summer naughtiness.

Jayli Wolf – “Would You Die?”
The Indigenous, queer, alt-pop creative has released a new track that will help you turn down, get in those feels, and feel empowered to turn back up. After feeling unconditional love for the first time, Wolf felt unafraid to explore the world of connection and light. Having lived in a space of guilt and shame around being bisexual, she has stepped into her truth and is embracing self-love and acceptance like never before.

LVXURI – “Consulate Lust”
The new project LVXURI from artist Sera Timms, of Black Mare, Ides of Gemini, and Black Math Horseman, is giving us industrial metal and metamorphosis from wandering into femme embodiment. As a servant of love, the new release tracks the visual and sonic distinction from an altered state of reality and the fantasy of the psyche. Having arrived at the thin line between beauty and madness, a new, creative world is upon us with “Consulate Lust.”
