Fans Suspect Pop Icon Madonna Sutley Announced She’s Gay
Madonna, the 64-year-old pop icon, posted a TikTok video earlier this month that led fans to suspect she came out of the closet.
In the video, Madonna holds up a pair of pink underwear with text at the bottom of the footage that says, “If I miss, I’m Gay!” She proceeds to throw the underwear toward a trash bin but misses. Afterward, the camera pans back to her and she throws her arms up as if to say, “Oh well.”

According to Advocate, the video came out shortly after she was seen kissing 26-year-old Dominican rapper and content creator Tokischa Altagracia Peralta. Both artists have also posted several clips across social media from their recent music video—a remix of Madonna’s 2005 song “Hung Up,” titled “Hung Up on Tokischa”—which shows the two dancing provocatively and intimately interacting.
Despite the newest announcement (or what fans think is an announcement), it’s possible Madonna may have always been signaling her preferences to the masses. In a 1991 interview, she explains that although she felt like an outcast in everyday life, she felt at home in the queer community–something she realized the first time she went to a queer club as a teenager–“I just felt at home. I had a whole new sense of myself.” In that same interview, she told Advocate, “I think everybody has a bisexual nature.”
In 2019, she accepted the Advocate for Change Award–which has only ever been awarded to President Bill Clinton–from GLAAD, an LGBTQ media advocacy agency. According to CNN, she was given the award because of the positive impact she’s had on the LGBTQ community.
“From the HIV crisis to international LGBTQ issues, she fearlessly pushes for a world where LGBTQ people are accepted. Her music and art have been life-saving outlets for LGBTQ people over the years and her affirming words and actions have changed countless hearts and minds,” president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis says in a statement.
