Eye spy: Get the look with these hot trends in shades

With Colorado’s 300-plus days of sunshine, a sexy pair of sunglasses is an absolute must. Better yet, grab a few pairs for all of your active pursuits. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie looking for a rush, or if you consider it exercise to spend the day shopping in Cherry Creek North, these shades will ensure you look the part.

Better yet, you can discreetly check out that new crush while looking hot yourself. OFC checked in with Amy Brandsma, corporate manager and buyer with Europtics and Tom Fox, designer, researcher and developer with Optic Nerve, to get the scoop on hot new trends in shades this season.

>> Top IN trends that’ll have all eyes on you:

Go Retro: The retro look is always hot, so sport a pair of aviators, wayfarers or big plastic frames to get the look. Even rubber sunglasses are making a comeback.

Pattern is Posh: Groovy graphics – like updated 1980s prints – are a great way to add pizzazz to your style.

Functional Style: Performance-enhancing lens coatings, such as those that eliminate fogging, are making their way onto the sunglass scene. Many manufacturers also are making gradient-polarized lenses in the fashion frames.

Color Craze: Neon and bright colors add instant style. You also can’t go wrong with silver, black or tortoise frames.

Full Frames: Large frames are just plain glamorous and make anyone look like a movie star.

>> Top OUT trends that’ll have them looking the other way:

Small Frames: Since big is in, small is most definitely out.

Rimless Sunglasses: While they’re still in demand for comfort, they’re definitely out when it comes to style.

Fashion Metals: Fashion metal frames are slowing down and trending out.

Blending In: As with any accessory, sunglasses are a great way to show off your individual style. So, be sure to stay away from anything generic.

Going Cheap: Skip the sunglass rack at Walgreen’s and go for a high-style pair.
