Charcoal Restaurant
43 W. 9th Ave., 80204

Find a terrific looking free-standing restaurant in a neighborhood that is in need of exciting dining at affordable prices. It’s Charcoal, in the Golden Triangle near Governor’s Park.

The ambience is stunning with the use of brick, fabric and chandelier lighting from Argentina which helps create a contemporary background for Chef Patrick Landburg’s eclectic cuisine.

Fabric covered booths, comfortable tables and a great bar start the fun. The private dining room brings a country French feel to Denver and the huge open kitchen has another bar with seating for guests to watch the chefs at work.

A high tech Napa technology wine dispensary system and special Bincho (white charcoal) grills are awesome features and bring the name “Charcoal” into focus.

Start with wonderful homemade breads, osso buco style oxtail with gnocchi, mussels, prawns and a charcuterie platter. Chicken liver pate and feta spread are perfect for sharing. The Gravlox is a must and shows off the chef’s Swedish heritage.

The beet salad and arugula with cheese and nuts make a great second course.

Lamb, chicken breast, a salmon tournedo and halibut start the entrée list. The steak, crab cake, gnocchi and pork make decisions difficult.
End with bread pudding, chocolate chile mousse, and a wonderful apple tart.

The wine list is terrific, and service shines. Brunch has specialty dishes from Sweden to showcase even more of the chef’s background.
Featuring upscale food and wine in casual surroundings, Charcoal Restaurant is a great addition to the Golden Triangle dining scene.

The most fun:
Watching the chefs at work in the open kitchen and dining at the bar where you can watch.

Do not miss:
Gravlox, oxtail gnocchi and of course the charcoal grilled meats.
