Teen drama series Euphoria is renewed for a third season on HBO, according to them. The series stars 25-year-old Zendaya as 17-year-old “Rue” on her journey throughout high school. The show centers around relationship drama and drug use all while wrangling the responsibilities of standard curriculum.

The show’s debut in 2019 followed with acclaim for the spot-on production, ranging from the acting to the sound design. Season Two continues to deliver on this, picking up as Rue goes through a relapse, and Jules heads for The City. School hits the ground running as Rue fumbles with her challenge to reach sobriety. New foes are made between Cassie, Nate, and Maddy.

Seasons One and Two were pleasing to the senses enough to command a third season’s creation, and create the show makers will. Sam Levinson continues to head the show as its creator. Euphoria excels in promoting an open leading character roster with transgender actress Hunter Schafer, as well as actress Zendaya Coleman.

Where Euphoria loses many is the sexualization of underage characters by using the loophole of casting people well over legal age. Plenty of other shows do this, but not everyone is comfortable with even the hint of teenage sex and sexuality being portrayed on-screen. Some feel that Sam Levinson, 37, who is involved with the show, is abusing nudity in this production and using it an inappropriate way.

Nevertheless, the show has its following, with support going essentially all the way to the top. “Sam, Zendaya, and the entire cast and crew of Euphoria have taken Season Two to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form, while maintaining its heart,” says Francesca Orsi, Executive VP of HBO. “We couldn’t be more honored to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into Season Three.”
