Envision:You, a Colorado-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving behavioral health outcomes for LGBTQ individuals, is proud to announce the appointment of two exceptional professionals, Jan Gascoigne, and Dr. Apryl Alexander, to its esteemed board of directors.
Envision:You is a Colorado-based nonprofit organization committed to improving behavioral health outcomes for LGBTQ individuals. Through collaborative efforts and evidence-based strategies, the organization seeks to address the disparities faced by the LGBTQ community in accessing behavioral health services and support.
Dr. Jan Gascoigne (she/her), an associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, and an associate clinical professor at the Colorado School of Public Health, brings over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and higher education.
With her extensive background in young adult health and wellbeing, Gascoigne is deeply committed to fostering a nurturing environment for marginalized communities. She is trained in restorative justice practices and health and life coaching techniques, equipping her with the necessary tools to support individuals as they navigate life’s challenges.
Gascoigne earned her Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Kent State University, solidifying her expertise in her field. Joining Jan on the board is Dr. Apryl Alexander (she/her), the Metrolina Distinguished Scholar in Health and Public Policy at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Apryl’s doctoral research in clinical psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology focused on forensic psychology and child and family therapy.
Her work centers on interpersonal violence, sexual offending, human sexuality, and trauma-informed and culturally-informed practices. Notably, Apryl is an award-winning researcher, with her groundbreaking work published in prestigious journals. She has been featured in prominent media outlets such as The New York Times, Essence, USA Today, and NBC Nightly News.
Additionally, her contributions to the field have earned her prestigious accolades, including the 2022 Dr. Sarah Burgamy Citizen Psychologist Award from the Colorado Psychological Association and the 2023 Evelyn Hooker Award for Distinguished Contribution by an Ally from the Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity. Moreover, Apryl enjoys bringing psychology to the public through her engaging presentations at events like Denver Pop Culture Con.
Steven Haden (he/him), Chief Executive Officer of Envision:You, expressed his enthusiasm about the new board members, stating, “It is a pleasure to welcome two leaders in public health to the board to help us advance health equity for the LGBTQ+ community.”
The addition of Dr. Jan Gascoigne and Dr. Apryl Alexander will undoubtedly enhance Envision:You’s efforts to address the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ individuals in accessing quality behavioral health services. Envision:You remains steadfast in its mission to close gaps in behavioral health outcomes for the LGBTQ community through co-created community programming, advocacy engagement, public awareness campaigns, and evidence-based training.
With the combined expertise of its diverse board, the organization is poised to make an even greater impact in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for LGBTQ individuals.
