On September 30, Envision:You hosted an art show and auction in a stunning home in the Cherry Creek North section of Denver in collaboration with LIV Sotheby’s International Realty. More than 50 people joined artists from around the country in support of the work of Envision:You, a nonprofit dedicated to improving behavioral health outcomes for Colorado’s LGBTQ+ individuals.
The event coincided with National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, which is held every year in September. Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, or background. Like other minority or marginalized groups, people who are LGBTQ+ may experience prejudice and discrimination. Research indicates that mental health problems, misuse of alcohol and other drugs, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors, are more common in this group than in the general population.
According to Steven Haden, chief executive officer and co-founder of Envision:You, “More and more people now appreciate that the arts and culture can play a valuable role in helping people who have mental or behavioral health concerns. The idea that creative expression can make a powerful contribution to the healing process has been embraced in many different cultures. Throughout recorded history, people have used pictures, stories, dances, and chants as healing rituals. The Envision:You Art Show was an opportunity for our community to find inspiration in art and healing with each other. We are grateful to each of our artists for their contribution.”
“I am thrilled to be able to support such an important, local resource for the LGBTQ+ community, such as Envision:You,” said Scott Bernard, broker, LIV Sotheby’s International Realty. “My listing, 333 Milwaukee Street, is a perfect venue to host a fundraising art event, with its modern sophistication and a touch of mountain style that Colorado is known for. It was ideal to engage with the attendees so we may assist this incredible organization to make positive changes within peoples’ lives.”
The event took place in Colorado House District 6. According to State Representative Steven Woodrow, “We are in unprecedented times. So many are suffering and are in need of mental health resources and services. Thankfully, Envision:You is there to offer meaningful support. The mental and behavioral health needs of the LGBTQ+ community matters, and I will always stand with this community.”
